Research summary

How AI is changing management decisions

AI is already part of how leaders decide. In Deloitte's 2026 research, 60% of executives said they regularly use AI to support their decisions.

The study

Who: Deloitte, with Oxford Economics.

What: AI and the future of human decision-making, a chapter of the 2026 Global Human Capital Trends report, published on 3 March 2026.

Type: A survey. People reported their own experience.

People: More than 9,000 business and HR leaders in 89 countries. The report does not publish how many of them were executives.

What the researchers found

60% of executives said they regularly use AI to support their decisions.

In a separate question, 5% of respondents said their organisation was making great progress on what AI means for decision-making and leadership.

These two figures come from different groups of respondents. They should not be compared directly.

What this may mean for managers

This is our interpretation, not the researchers' finding.

Deciding with AI is already part of a manager's job, not a future topic. When AI supports a decision, someone still chooses what to do and answers for the result. Organisations can make that responsibility clear before a problem appears.

What this study did not test

  • It did not measure whether decisions made with AI were better or worse.
  • It records what leaders reported about their own use.
