Facilitator certification
Learn to turn a simulation into a useful conversation.
The StepSim facilitator programme teaches you to run a group session, explain the evidence in each person's record and lead a debrief that connects the case to work.
For trainers, training providers and internal L&D facilitators. You bring facilitation experience; you do not need to be an AI expert.

Skills
What you learn to do
- Run a session from start to finishSet up the group, explain the participant notice, manage session codes, brief the room and keep the session on track.
- Read a decision recordFollow the person's actions, locate the evidence and explain how the written rules produce the case feedback.
- Lead an individual debriefStart with the route the person took. Examine the evidence, discuss another route and keep decision quality apart from outcome and luck.
- Lead a group debriefUse the group view to explore patterns, connect them to work and agree changes with owners and dates.
- Explain a readingShow the actions behind it, so the conversation starts from what happened. Invite the participant to explain their reasoning.
- Introduce StepSim to a clientExplain the simulator, the session and the separate certification routes in plain words.
Typical programme
Practise each part before you run the whole session.
| Week | Focus | Practice |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Experience the simulations | Play the three practice cases and review your records. |
| 2 | Read the evidence | Practise reading sample decision records. |
| 3 | Debrief an individual | Practise a debrief with a peer. |
| 4 | Run a group session | Practise using the facilitator view with a test group. |
| 5 | Handle difficult questions | Practise explaining case feedback, who receives named records and how a team session differs from an Assessment. Discuss the limits of using a practice record in a decision about someone's job. |
| 6 | Bring it together | Run a session with coach feedback. |
| 7–8 | Optional deeper practice | Explore individual cases and plan how to take StepSim to clients. |
Short modules arrive when you need them, alongside practice on the real product.
Certification and licence
Your certification and your licence have different jobs.
Exeter Labs certifies trainers who complete the facilitator programme to run StepSim sessions.
Your licence gives you permission to deliver sessions under the partner agreement. Exeter Labs issues the licence as the company that builds and runs the platform.
Participant certification is different: AIRS-J/1 certification, which AIR APAC issues after the participant's own assessment on StepSim. Running sessions does not certify the people in them. A team session gives a development reading; hiring and certification use a separate Assessment.
Tell us who you want to run sessions for.
Send your name, organisation and whether you train clients or your own managers. The programme takes registrations of interest, and we will write with dates when they are set. If you are planning a first session, ask for a 30-minute call. We will show you the facilitator view and help you prepare.
